The Law in Practice

A number of topics will be of particular practical importance to practitioners and their clients in 2007.

Company Law

The Company Law Reform Bill should be enacted, and the implications should be emerging. A summary will be provided of the main provisions of the Act of particular importance to small and medium sized businesses, and all relevant case law and commentary will be discussed.

Employment Law

New developments in the anti-discrimination provisions affecting practitioners and clients.

A number of the recent changes to the Disability Discrimination Act will be firmly embedded by 2007 and participants will be updated on recent cases and given guidance on dealing with sickness. The age discrimination regulations will be almost one year old, and any cases emerging will be fully discussed.

There will be an outline of the changes to family friendly rights, including increased maternity leave, coming into force in April 2007

Business Law

The final parts of the Data Protection Act comes into force in 2007, and it seems timely to remind practitioners of their responsibilities in relation to personal data, and update them on any new case law and on guidance from the Information Commissioner.
