HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is carrying out a major review and alignment of all its powers, following the creation of this single department from the merger of the Inland Revenue with HM Customs & Excise.

How will the new powers affect your practice and your clients?
This one-day conference will give an overview of the powers review – the rationale behind it, what has been done so far, and what is planned for the future. We will then focus on the new penalty rules for incorrect tax returns, which will apply from 2008, and on changes to HMRC’s information powers and compliance procedures which are already starting to be seen in practice. A highlight of the day will be an interactive role-play session, which will make the changes come alive! We will also look at the all-important issue of taxpayer rights and safeguards, and at the new-look tax appeal tribunals system which will start in 2009. The day will end with some expert advice for practitioners on how to prepare for, and deal with, the new compliance landscape.

The new HMRC powers will be in force sooner than you think – don’t get caught out!
